The Nintendo NES was Nintendo's first 8 bit console and was released in 1985. The system proved to be extremely popular with around 60 million units being sold across the world, giving Nintendo the foundations to gain dominance of the home console market in subsequent years. Unlike Atari before them, Nintendo encouraged third party game development and this led to over 800 games being produced. Consequently, there are now over 13 000 Nintendo roms and NES roms available online.
