FAQ's | Roms and Isos
1) I need to download the BIOS files for my Iso emulator - do you have them for download?
Probably. Check the "Extras" category of your chosen system.
2) Why have all the file download counts in xxx category been reset to zero?
Every time we upate a rom set we just upload it and add all the files to the database again. This is because when a rom set is updated,
usually files are renamed by Cowering as well as new files being added. To avoid any confusion, we find it easier to just clear the database of the old file names and re-add the new ones.
3) What do the funny symbols after the rom names mean?
These are Good Codes used to identify the roms. You can see what they mean by
viewing the
Good
Code List.
4) How do I extract the rom/iso zip/rar files?
Most emulators can play zipped up rom files, however you can use
Winzip
to extract them if you wish. To extract the iso files before burning/mounting, you will need to download
all the required
parts and then extract them using
Winrar.
5) Why do you only link to one emulator for each system?
Because that's all most people need to play the game. If you're running a
non Windows OS, or you want to try a different emulator they're very easy to
find using
Google.
6) Why does xxx rom / iso not work with xxx emulator?
Not all roms or isos work with all emulators and this is especially true of iso
system emulators which are all still in relative infancy. Don't expect to be able to play all the isos you download on your PC (especially for the Dreamcast and newer systems) - it's just not possible at the moment. We can't offer any
support with this; make sure you read all the documentation accompanying your
emulator and remember that
Google is your friend.
7) Why don't you store roms for systems like Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii and Sony PS3?
These systems and games for them are still in production. We only store
emulators, roms, isos and related files for obsolete systems in line with
Exemption 1201 from the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.
8) Sony don't make the original Playstation any more - why not host games for that?
We might at some point in the future. Watch this space.
9) What about the Nintendo GBA and Nintendo Gamecube - have these not been surpassed by the Nintendo DS and Nintendo Wii?
Games are still being produced for both these systems. When this stops we will indeed begin hosting GBA and Gamecube games here. Think of it
as something to look forward to.
10) Why are all the Saturn Isos named [BIN-CUE] or [ISO-MP3] when other Isos are not?
We used to recommend Giri Giri as a Saturn emulator - this only supported bin/cue files so we converted and named our Saturn isos accordingly.
Now we recommend SSF which just supports mounted images so we don't convert games to bin/cue anymore. However we've kept the naming convention anyway.
