FAQ's | Registration and Downloading

1) Why do I have to register?
You don't have to register if you don't want to download files. Many of the functions on the site are account based; each account has a daily download limit, each account stores download and general account activity and so on. This is why every user needs an account before downloading files.

2) If you don't distribute my email, why must I give my real email address?
There are two main reasons for this. Firstly, if we need to contact you, we need a valid email address on file. Secondly, if you lose your account username and/or password, giving us a valid email address will allow you to have these resent. The whole "you have no right to ask for my email address" argument doesn't hold water with us - if you don't want to give us your email address simply do not register. Easy.

3) Why do you limit the amount I can download per day?
Bandwidth is not free. Every time you download something, remember that we at romBay.com are paying for the privilege of watching you do it. We are happy to give every person who uses our site a certain amount of bandwidth per day however since we're not a charity and we don't have infinite amounts of cash, we have to limit this.

4) How can I download more than the standard daily download limit?
That's simple. Upgrade your account.

5) Why can I not download N64 / Neo Geo / Sega CD / etc files which are less than 100 000Kb?
This is a fair point in many ways. If we let you have 100 000Kb per day for free, why not let you download N64 games that are less than 100 000Kb? Sadly, the problem is all too simple. Since the N64 games are in much higher demand, people will simply register more than one free account for themselves in order to download several N64 games per day. Our system only does a very basic check to ensure one account per computer (it's just a cookie) and we really don't have the time to check accounts ourselves. So, for that reason the more popular files are only available to upgraded users.

5) OK - I'm smart. I don't expect you give me free bandwidth, but why not just host files with Rapidshare or Bittorrent?
Files on Rapidshare get removed very quickly. Rare games on Bittorrent end up with zero seeders even quicker. The point of this site is that we have control over everything and as such we can keep all our files online for you to download at high speeds 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

6) I'd prefer to see lots of pop ups, fake Ask Jeeves search links and Active X banners than have to pay to download. Why not do that to cover your costs?
If you think like this, you're in the wrong place. This site is for people who don't mind contributing a small amount of money to cover our bandwidth costs and get access to guaranteed high speed downloads. If you want to go to a crappy rom site with millions of porn banners, "Click here for real n64 roms" links which take you in an endless loop, broken Rapidshare download links and forced voting, there are plenty out there on the internet.

7) I can't afford the monthly fee - how can I download upgraded files?
You can't - at least not from our site. Unfortunately you'll have to make do with one of those pop up infested sites instead.

8) I love your site but one little thing, why is the maximum file part size only 100 000Kb?
This size just seems to make sense for us. Think of it this way - if you were downloading a 700 000Kb file from your Gold upgraded account and your internet cut out when you were 90% done, you'd be pretty pissed off at having to wait until the next day to download the whole thing again. 100 000Kb is a nice manageable size for most users and fits in nicely with our download limits.

9) How can I delete my account / update my email address?
You can do both of these things (and more) from the my account section of the site.

10) Do you support download managers, accelerators etc?
No.

11) What should I do if my download cuts out or I think the download counter made an error?
Nothing. Wait until the download counter resets and download again the next day.

12) What time does the download counter reset?
6am BST daily.
